I am no preacher, but, am a prime sinner and living in this world in HIS mercy. For a sinner like me too, when I read “The Holy Bible” KJV,  the following verses were given in the context of “sin is”.

Gen 18:20 And the LORD said,
Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great,
and because their sin is very grievous;

Gen 18:21 I will go down now,
and see whether they have done altogether
according to the cry of it,
which is come unto me;
and if not, I will know.

Joh 8:34 Jesus answered them,
Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

Rom 5:13 (For until the law sin was in the world:
but sin is not imputed
when there is no law.

1Jo 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin
transgresseth also the law:
for sin is the transgression of the law.

1Jo 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil;
for the devil sinneth from the beginning.
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested,
that he might destroy the works of the devil.
