I am no preacher, but, am a prime sinner and living in this world in HIS mercy. For a sinner like me too, when I read “The Holy Bible” KJV,  the following verses were given in the context of “root of”.

a root of them against Amalek;
after thee, Benjamin, among thy people;
out of Machir came down governors,
and out of Zebulun they that handle the pen of the writer.

seeing the root of the matter is found in me?

and thereby many be defiled;

behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David,
hath prevailed to open the book,
